MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Toronto Blue Jays announced Friday that right-handed pitcher Gabriel Ponce has been promoted from the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons.

In four June relief appearances, Ponce did not allow a run in 11 innings pitched. He earned his first win June 9 on the road against Binghamton with three scoreless, hitless innings of relief. Ponce had not surrendered an earned run since May 14, the longest stretch by a Fisher Cats pitcher this year spanning 17 consecutive innings.

Ponce joined the Fisher Cats on April 19 from High-A Vancouver after making two appearances with the Canadians to begin the season. In 14 outings with New Hampshire exclusively in relief, he went 1-2 with a 2.12 ERA, giving up just seven earned runs in 29.2 innings with 29 strikeouts and just nine walks.

The San Luis, Ariz., native was selected by the Blue Jays in the 28th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Arizona Western College. This is the first time Ponce has been promoted to Triple-A in his career.

In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Braden Scott has returned to the Fisher Cats from Vancouver. Scott made six relief appearances with New Hampshire earlier in the season, going 1-1 with a 3.75 ERA and 12 strikeouts in 12 innings.

The Fisher Cats continue a seven-game series at Delta Dental Stadium against the Somerset Patriots (Yankees affiliate) Friday at 7:05 p.m. and are at home through next Sunday, June 26. Tickets are available at NHFisherCats.com, via email at [email protected], by phone at (603) 641-2005, or in-person at the Fisher Cats box office on 1 Line Drive in Manchester.
