Murphy Shutout Lookouts 8-0 on Thursday night

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn -- Shane Murphy pitched seven shutout innings as the Birmingham Barons won 8-0 over the Chattanooga Lookouts before 3,820 at Erlanger Park on Thursday night.

Three pitchers combined for the shutout, the sixth of the season. Alec Briley led the Barons with back-to-back games with two home runs. The Barons have won three games in a row over the Lookouts.

Starting pitcher Shane Murphy (4-1, 3.21) pitched seven strong innings, giving up only four hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Murphy threw 88 pitches in the win. Carson Jacobs pitched the eighth inning, getting two strikeouts. Pierce George pitched the ninth inning, giving up one hit with three strikeouts.

Birmingham (23-25, 49-68) scored in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Dylan Campbell and Caleb Bonemer walked. Briley stepped up and hit a three-run home run over the right-field wall, and the Barons led 3-0.

In the top of the fifth inning, Campbell hit a solo home run to left field, and Caleb Bonemer followed with a solo home run to left field, his 13th of the season, and the Barons led 5-0.

In the top of the seventh inning, Samuel Zavala singled. Campbell hit a two-run home run, his second of the game, and the Barons led 7-0. Briley followed with a solo home run, his 25th of the season. Birmingham led 8-0.

For the Barons, Briley had three hits, two home runs, four RBI, and two runs scored. Campbell had the two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk.

Up next is Game 4 of the six-game series. The Barons will send RHP Dylan Cumming (3-7, 5.31) to the mound while the Lookouts will send RHP Luke Hayden (3-8, 6.88) to the mound. First pitch is at 6:00 pm (CT).
