Barons Win On A Wild Pitch Walk-Off 7-6 over the Clingstones on Thursday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala -- The Birmingham Barons won 7-6 over the Columbus Clingstones before 2,401 at Regions Field on Thursday night. With the game tied at 6-6 in the bottom of the 10th inning, Dylan Campbell scored on a wild pitch for the Barons to get the extra-inning win.

Starting pitcher Juan Carela got the no-decision, working four innings, giving up five hits, two earned runs, and two walks with three strikeouts. Jackson Kelley pitched two innings, giving up only one hit with three strikeouts. Mathias LaCombe pitched one inning, giving up a hit and a strikeout. Aiden Anderson pitched one inning, giving up a walk with a strikeout. In the ninth inning, Jonathan Clark pitched one inning, giving up four hits and four earned runs. Pierce George (4-1, 7.23) gets the win as he pitched a perfect 10th inning.

Columbus scored in the top of the fourth inning on a two-RBI Carson Taylor single. Columbus took the 2-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Jorge Corona was hit by a pitch. He stole second base. Jose Colmenares walked. Samuel Zavala singled to load the bases with one out. Caleb Bonemer was hit by a pitch, scoring Corona. Alec Briley hit a sacrifice fly to center field to tie the game at 2-2. Anthony DePino doubled, scoring Zavala, and the Barons led 3-2.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, Zavala singled and Bonemer singled. With two outs, Colby Shelton singled to right field, scoring Zavala. The Barons led 4-2. Ryan Burrowes followed with an RBI single to right field, scoring Bonemer, and the Barons led 5-2.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, James Taussig hit a solo home run to center field, and the Barons led 6-2.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Clingstones scored four runs to tie the game at 6-6. The Barons had two runners in the bottom of the ninth but could not score.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Campbell started the inning at second base. A wild pitch moved Campbell to third base. Jose Colmenares walked. Colmenares went to second base on a defensive indifference. With no outs, Zavala grounded out to first base and Jordan Sprinkle lined out to second base. So with two outs and Briley at bat, LJ McDonough threw a wild pitch, scoring Campbell from third base, and the Barons got the 7-6 home win.
