6/24/21 Game Recap Starfires 6 Sea Unicorns 4

(Norwich, CT) –The Norwich Sea Unicorns scored four unanswered runs to come within one run of the Westfield Starfires, but fell short in their comeback 6-4 Thursday night at Dodd Stadium.

Down 5-0 in the second, the Sea Unicorns got on the board when Korey Morton (Norwalk, CT/UConn) came home on an error in the fifth. The Sea Unicorns then rallied with three runs in the seventh behind an RBI single by Jared Zimbardo (Middlesex, NJ/Quinnipiac University), a sacrifice fly by Michael Torniero (East Haven, CT/Central CT State University), and a run-scoring wild pitch. Norwich benefited from outstanding relief pitching by Spencer Fox (Manchester, CT/Southern CT State University) and Connor Davey (Cheshire, CT/Rhode Island College). Fox pitched 3.1 innings of shutout relief, striking out six and allowing three hits to extend his personal scoreless streak to 15 consecutive innings over six appearances. Davey pitched 3.2 scoreless innings with no walks and three strikeouts.

The Norwich Sea Unicorns return to Dodd Stadium to host the Nashua Silver Knights on Friday, June 25 beginning at 5:00 pm with the continuation of their suspended game due to rain from June 19. The game will resume where it left off in the top of the 4th, with Norwich leading 2-1. At the conclusion of that nine-inning game, the originally scheduled game between the same two teams will follow as a seven-inning game, with the regularly scheduled Post-Game Fireworks show presented by Liberty Bank to follow.
