Gatto Dazzles But Bats Stay Quiet

(Dayton, OH) - The Burlington Bees (44-56) were held to just one run for the second consecutive game, losing 3-1 to the Dayton Dragons (53-48) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field. 

(Dayton, OH) - The Burlington Bees (44-56) were held to just one run for the second consecutive game, losing 3-1 to the Dayton Dragons (53-48) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field. 

Dayton's starter Andrew Jordan retired seven Bees' batters in a row before Jonah Todd grounded a single to right with two outs in the top of the third. After Derek Jenkins was hit by a pitch, Richie Fecteau grounded a single into right, scoring Todd giving the Bees a 1-0 lead.
Dayton quickly answered in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs Jose Siri sngled into left field. Malik Collymore then tied the game at one with a triple to left-center, scoring Siri. The Dragons took the lead off the Bees' bullpen in the sixth inning. After walking the first two batters of the inning, Ty Barkell struck out the next two before Hector Vargas singled up the middle, scoring Collymore, giving the Dragons a 2-1 lead. Michael Beltre added to the Dragons lead with a solo home run in the extend the Dragons' lead to 3-1 in the eighth inning.
The Bees would threaten in the ninth as Artemis Kadkhodaian would single and Sam McDonnell would reach on an error but both runners were stranded as the Bees fell to the Dragons, 3-1. Dragons' starter, Andrew Jordan (5-6) earned the win while Ty Barkell (1-5) was charged with the loss. Joel Kuhnel (10) picked up the save. 
The Bees will return home, following an off day, on Wednesday, July 26th when they host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at 6:30 p.m. for Carpetland USA Kids Eat Free Wednesdays. All kids ages 6-12 will get a free hot dog and drink at the game with paid admission. Nate Bertness will make the start for the Bees against Carlos Herrera of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Community Field. 
NOTES: Joe Gatto has allowed just four runs in his last four starts, spanning 20 innings. The Bees finished the six game road trip 2-4.
