Gavin Williams To Join RubberDucks

(AKRON, OHIO) June 6, 2022 – The Cleveland Guardians announce right-handed pitcher Gavin Williams has been promoted to the Akron RubberDucks.

Williams was Cleveland’s first round pick in the 2021 MLB draft (21st overall selection). He is currently ranked as the number seven overall prospect in the Guardians organization according to MLB.com.

So far this season, Williams is 2-1 with a 1.40 ERA for High-A Lake County. He has struck out 67 batters while walking just 14 over 45.0 innings pitched.

A native of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Williams pitched collegiately at East Carolina University. While with the Pirates, he pitched in parts of four seasons going 11-5 with a 2.65 ERA over 53 games (17 starts). Williams was the first college pitcher to be selected by Cleveland in the first round since 2010.

The Akron RubberDucks begin a six-game series with the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday, June 7 at 6:35 p.m. in Somerset. Williams is scheduled to make his RubberDucks debut on Sunday, June 12 at 1:05 p.m.

The RubberDucks return to Canal Park on Tuesday, June 21 at 6:35 p.m. for the start of six-game series with the Harrisburg Senators. Tickets for all RubberDucks home games can be purchased by calling 855-97-QUACK or by visiting akronrubberducks.com.
