Gorzelanny recalled by Pirates
Gorzelanny went 6-5 with a 2.35 ERA in 16 Triple-A starts this season. He was leading the International League with 94 strikeouts and ranked fifth in ERA. The 23-year-old also turned in a 2-0 record and 0.45 ERA (1 ER in 20 IP) over his last three starts. Gorzelanny was recently invited to the All-Star Futures Game and named to the International League All-Star Team.
Perez went 2-10 with a 6.63 ERA in 15 Major League starts this season. He managed a 7-5 record and 5.85 ERA in 20 starts for Pittsburgh during the 2005 campaign. The 24-year-old has spent parts of five seasons in the Major Leagues -- San Diego (2002-03) and Pittsburgh (2003-06). He entered 2006 with a 27-30 mark and 4.26 ERA in 90 big league outings.
Gorzelanny becomes the fourth Tribe player to be promoted during the month of June. INF Yurendell de Caster was recalled on June 5, RHP Jonah Bayliss on June 27 and INF Mike Edwards on June 29. De Caster has since returned to the Triple-A level.
Both southpaws are scheduled to start on Saturday -- Gorzelanny (for Pittsburgh) against Detroit and Perez (for Indianapolis) at Toledo.
