ROYALS PROSPECTS PITCH WELL IN ARIZONA

Peoria Javelinas surging as Arizona Fall League winds down

SPRINGDALE, Ark. -- The Arizona Fall League has reached its final two weeks of play, and the Peoria Javelinas, consisting of seven Kansas City Royals prospects, seem to have found their groove. With wins in four of their last five games, the Javelinas enter Tuesday afternoon's game a half game back of first in the Arizona Fall League West Division. 

RHP Miguel Almonte, a top five prospect in the Royals organization according to MLB.com, is 1-0 over his last two Fall starts, including 6.2 innings pitched, eight strikeouts, one earned run and only five hits allowed. Almonte picked up the victory in Peoria's 6-5 victory on Monday afternoon, while former 2014 Naturals LHP Same Selman and RHP Ali Williams each pitched a perfect inning in relief to earn a hold. Almonte earned a trip to the 2013 Futures Game as part of the World team, and pitched for High-A Wilmington in 2014. He could pitch as a member of the Northwest Arkansas Naturals by 2015.

During the Javelinas' last four victories, Peoria starting pitchers have allowed a total of three earned runs, including the two starts by Almonte.   Former Naturals Selman and Williams have combined for five shutout innings in relief during the stretch.

Season 8 of Naturals baseball will begin with a six-game road trip to Midland and Frisco before returning to Arvest Ballpark for their home opener on Thursday, April 16 against the Midland RockHounds (Double-A Affiliate of the Oakland Athletics).
