Wilson will join Jaxx for five days to rehab hamstring strain

PEARL, MS. (May 15, 2010) - The Seattle Mariners announced the following roster move that effects the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx roster. Mariners' shortstop, Jack Wilson will join the Diamond Jaxx tonight in Mississippi to begin a five-day rehab assignment. Wilson has been injured since May 5 with a right hamstring strain and was placed on the 15-day DL.

"He will be the designated hitter for a couple of games, play various amounts of innings through the 19th and travel back [to Seattle] on the 20th," manager Don Wakamatsu said Friday night.

Wilson, a former All-Star with the Pittsburgh Pirates is batting .253 with seven RBIs for Seattle and volunteered to go on the DL on Wednesday, when it became apparent that he needed several more days to recover from the injury. Wilson was acquired by the Mariners on July 29, 2009 along with Ian Snell in exchange for Ronny Cedeno, Jeff Clement, Aaron Pribanic, Nathan Adcock and Brett Lorin.

Wilson was originally selected by St. Louis in the 9th round of the 1998 June draft. While with Pittsburgh Jack ranks 4th all-time in games played (1,128) and home runs (59). He has had 6 separate errorless streaks of 30 games or more; his longest being a 52-game streak from Aug. 31, 2002-May 3, 2003. Wilson is also the all-time hits leader at Pittsburgh's PNC Park with 612 hits. Wilson was selected to the National League All-Star team in 2004 and also won the Silver Slugger in 2004. He was also the winner of the 2004 Roberto Clemente Award.

Jack is a career .268 hitter 61 homeruns and 397 RBI in 1,190 career games.The MLB rehab assignment by Wilson marks the first with the Diamond Jaxx since Arthur Rhodes in April of 2008.

Also, Jaxx pitcher Wes Littleton has been placed on the Temporary Inactive List to go back to California where his wife gave birth to their second child last week. Littleton earned his first save of the season on Thursday night for West Tenn. Taking Littleton's place on the roster will be RHP Jorden Merry. Jordan will join the Jaxx from extended spring training in Peoria, AZ. Jorden was a 40th round selection by the Mariners in the 2009 draft. He was 2-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 16 games for rookie, Pulaski in 2009.

The Diamond Jaxx open a five-game series with the Missisippi Braves in Pearl, MS beginning tonight at 7:05. The Jaxx are 18-16 on the season and have won three straight games.
