For Anderson, the hits keep on coming

The only thing that's been able to slow Tim Anderson down this year was a fractured right wrist.

Sidelined for nearly two months during the regular season, the White Sox second-ranked prospect never had much trouble producing while healthy, a trend that's continued in the Arizona Fall League.

On Saturday afternoon, he went 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored to lead Glendale to a 5-1 victory over Scottsdale. Through 20 AFL games, MLB.com's No. 82 overall prospect has posted a .313/.353/.450 slash line with two homers and nine RBIs, ranking third in the league with 25 hits.

"I'm trying to get as many reps as I can out here, that's really what it's all about," Anderson said. "I'm focusing on the fundamentals, just working on my timing and fielding out there, making the most out of every play.

"You need to have consistency in this game, so I'm trying to keep things going at the plate. I try to settle into that groove each day and get the most out of all those at-bats against some really good pitchers."

The 2013 first-round pick (17th overall) struck out swinging in the first inning before cracking a leadoff double in the fourth and singling in the fifth and eighth. He also stole third base in the eighth.

"I was just seeing the ball pretty well today and trying to get good pitches to hit," Anderson said. "Just one of those days where I was picking up the ball well and everyone in our lineup was doing a good job of making the pitchers work."

The 21-year-old Alabama native played in 68 games at Class A Advanced Winston-Salem and 10 with Double-A Birmingham. Including five rehab appearances in the Rookie-level Arizona League, he finished with a .301/.327/.481 slash line, nine homers, 40 RBIs and 10 steals in 83 games.

"It was good to kind of pick up where I left off, but I actually learned a lot by just watching when I had to," Anderson said of dealing with the injury. "I definitely saw some things that helped me become a better ballplayer. So the whole thing was tough and it was hard to go through it all, but it wasn't all bad, looking back on it."

Glendale (11-15) got four scoreless innings from Brewers right-hander Brooks Hall (1-0), who yielded one hit and struck out two without issuing a walk. Phillies southpaw Adam Morgan (1-2) started for Scottsdale (11-17) and gave up a run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts over four frames.

Giants prospect Blake Miller drove in the Scorpions' lone run, while Brewers prospect Shawn Zarraga plated two for the Desert Dogs and top Brewers prospect Tyrone Taylor and Jason Esposito (Orioles) joined Anderson with one RBI apiece.
