CALDERA NAMED CL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Caldera made one start over that stretch, holding the Potomac Nationals scoreless over 7.2 frames on Friday night. The 24-year-old El Centro, CA native surrendered only five hits and struck out 11, while not issuing a single free pass. The performance came just one-third of an inning shy of equaling the longest outing of Caldera's career. He also established a new career-high in strikeouts.
On the season, Caldera is 2-2 with a 3.32 earned run average. The second-year Blue Rock has fanned 45 batters in 40.2 innings pitched, while walking only nine. He ranks third in the loop in strikeouts, strikeouts per nine innings pitched and lowest walks-per-nine-innings-pitched ratio. Caldera last won the award during the season's second-to-final week in 2009. He is scheduled to make his next start on Wednesday evening.
