Glynn named Twins third base coach
The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have hired Rochester Red Wings manager Gene Glynn to be their third base coach. Glynn, the 43 rd skipper in Red Wings history, managed the Wings from 2012-2014 posting a 226-206 mark.
Glynn, 58, is the first Red Wings manager since Joe Altobelli (1971-76) to manage the Wings for at least three seasons and not post a losing record in any year.
After inheriting a team that went a combined 102-186 in the two years prior to his arrival, Glynn managed the Wings to a 72-72 record in 2012 before leading Rochester to the International League playoffs for the first time in seven seasons as the wild card winner in 2013. Last season, the Wings finished with an identical 77-67 record as the previous year but fell two games shy of a return trip to the playoffs.
The Waseca, MN native returns to the Major Leagues for the first time since 2006 when he served as third base coach for the San Francisco Giants (2003-06). He's also spent time as a Major League coach with the Colorado Rockies (1994-98), Montreal Expos (1999) and Chicago Cubs (2000-02). Glynn was a scout in the Tampa Bay Rays system for five seasons before being named manager of the Red Wings prior to the 2012 season.
