Hinze's two homers lead Legends to 4-2 win over Greenville
Hinze's first home run, a solo shot, broke up a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the sixth, after J.D. Martinez singled, Hinze hit a drive estimated at 420 feet that sailed over the bleachers in left field to give the Legends a 3-0 lead.
The two-homer game continues a hot streak for Hinze, who leads the South Atlantic League in home runs with 12 and RBI with 43. He was named SAL Player of the Week for May 10-16 after getting 11 hits in 22 at-bats during that week, with two homers and seven RBI.
Greenville got back into the game in the eighth inning with its own display of power, when back-to-back homers by Vladimir Frias and Jeremy Hazelbaker cut the lead to 3-2.
The Legends added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Rene Garcia's two-out single drove in Martinez, who had walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Greenville threatened in the ninth against reliever Kirk Clark when Michael Almanzar walked and Dan Butler was hit by a pitch, but Zach Gentile flied to Martinez in deep right field to end the game.
Legends starter Robby Donovan (3-3) got the win. He pitched six innings, allowed three hits, struck out eight batters and walked one. Clark earned his fifth save. Greenville starter Pedro Perez (2-3) was the losing pitcher.
The series and the Legends' homestand will conclude with a 10:05 a.m. game Wednesday.
