BayBears come up short, will play two Wednesday

May 18, 2010
MOBILE, Ala. - Marred by rain and then lightning, the BayBears only managed to play one half of their doubleheader on Tuesday night at Hank Aaron Stadium as they fell to the Chattanooga Lookouts, 6-1, prior to game two being postponed.

Bryan Shaw (1-3) only lasted three innings before the rains came. He surrendered three runs to the Lookouts (17-21) in the second as Jessie Mier drove home Scott Van Slyke with a two-out RBI single. The next hitter, opposing pitcher Chris Withrow, doubled home two men with a smash to straighaway center.

A one-hour, 21-minute rain delay carried Shaw and Withrow from the contest. Withrow didn't allow a baserunner in his two innings. Abe Woody replaced Shaw in the third and gave up a run in the fifth when Elian Herrera singled home Mier to make it 4-0.

Tommy Giles ripped a two-run tater off Woody in the sixth, giving Chattanooga a six-run advantage. The BayBears did pick up a run in the bottom of the sixth against Harvey Garcia (1-1), who tossed the last four frames. Jake Elmore singled home Gerson Montilla with two outs to keep the BayBears from being blanked for the second straight night.

The BayBears finish their five-game series with the Lookouts on Wednesday evening at 5:05 with another scheduled doubleheader, consisting of two seven-inning contests. It's Wine Down Wednesday at the ballpark with Yellow Tail White & Red wine available from 6 to 8 p.m. For tickets, which start at $5 for kids and $7 for adults, call (251) 479-BEAR or log on to www.mobilebaybears.com.
