A's Add Nunez to 40-man Roster

November 20, 2014

STOCKTON, Calif. - Ports third baseman Renato Nunez has been added to the Oakland Athletics 40-man roster in an effort preventing him from being picked up in the Rule 5 Draft next month.

Currently ranked the organization's third top prospect, Nunez was signed as a non-drafted free agent in 2010 by the A's at the age of 16.

In his 124 games with Stockton in 2014, Nunez hit .279 with a .336 OBP. Nunez ranked fourth in the California League in home runs, ending the season with 29.

The Venezuela native represented the World Team at this year's Futures Game and was named a California League Postseason All-Star.

The Rule 5 Draft stipulates that any player drafted at age 18 or younger must be added to the 40-man roster within five seasons. If an organization chooses not to do so, the player may be drafted by another club.

Other former Ports who are eligible for the Rule 5 Draft if not added to the roster include pitchers Ryan Doolittle, Seth Frankoff, Drew Granier, Chris Lamb, and Tanner Peters, in addition to outfielders Aaron Shipman (No. 18 prospect) and Josh Whitaker.
