Nelson Liriano Named New Coach
The Kansas City Royals have announced that Nelson Liriano will serve as the hitting coach for the Idaho Falls Chukars for the rest of the 2006 season. He had been serving as a coach for the Royals team in the Arizona Rookie League.
Liriano spent the past 4 seasons, 2002-2005 as the hitting coach for the Royals AA affiliate, Wichita. He also managed the Rockies Dominican Summer League team in 2000 and 2001.
The former 2nd baseman enjoyed an 11 year Major League career making his ML debut with Toronto in 1987. After leaving the Blue Jays, he played with Minnesota, Kansas City, Colorado, Pittsburgh and the LA Dodgers. He also played professionally in Japan and Mexico.
He resides in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, with his wife, Milvia and their children, Cindy, Jessie, Minelia and Minali.
