PawSox unveil new logos, color scheme

Polar bear theme gets a makeover; club adds light blue to palette
December 5, 2014

With newly unveiled logos and color schemes Friday, the Pawtucket Red Sox, commonly called the PawSox, have put the emphasis back on the Paw and less so on the Sox.

Boston's nearby Triple-A affiliate released a new set of logos that prominently feature the club's polar bear mascot and introduced new uniforms and caps that incorporate a light blue to go with red, navy, white and gray.

The club's primary logo will include a new smiling polar bear with arms raised in a celebratory manner over the words "PawSox," which is still written in a similar Tuscan font to the one used by the Red Sox. Longtime fans of the franchise will notice this is not the same bear previously seen in logos lurking around the club's "P" hat logo or the one holding a bat in other alternate logos.

The same bear's face will appear on the club's home cap, albeit in a scarier fashion with mouth agape and teeth showing. The primary color of the home cap will be a light blue (think Carolina blue; see below), which will combine with a dark blue brim to give off a cooler feel that ties back to the polar theme. The dark blue road cap looks similar to existing designs, with a polar bear paw wrapped around the club's "P" logo -- the hole in the "P" is a pawprint as well -- but the red brim will now be adorned with six pawprints tracking across the left side. A separate alternate cap will be completely dark blue with a singular hanging sock, similar to Boston's hanging socks logo, ripped at the bottom by a polar bear foot.

Pawtucket's official home jersey will be white with dark blue trim and will say "PawSox" in red across the front. A left sleeve emblem looks similar to the new primary logo, except in this case the polar bear holds two pieces of a broken light-blue bat in his claws. Road unis are gray with red trimming and a red "Pawtucket" across the front, and alternates will be the new light blue with red "PawSox" on the chest with a navy pawprint below it, on the left side of the shirt.

The new designs were done in tandem with Brandiose, which also worked on new logos for the San Antonio Missions and Nashville Sounds this offseason and did the first designs for the Biloxi Shuckers before their inaugural 2015 campaign.

The Pawtucket Red Sox won their second International League title in three years this fall and could be well-stocked again in 2015 with top Red Sox prospects Blake Swihart, Henry Owens, Garin Cecchini, Brian Johnson, Deven Marrero and Eduardo Rodriguez, who are likely ticketed for a return to Rhode Island.
