Bob Tarpey Named MiLB's Top Athletic Trainer

Fisher Cat took home Eastern League honors in August

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, in conjunction with the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS), are proud to announce that athletic trainer Bob Tarpey has been recognized as the 2014 Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year. Tarpey, who took home Eastern League honors in August, was presented with the national award this week by PBATS at the annual Baseball Winter Meetings in San Diego.

"We are thrilled to see Tarpey awarded this incredible honor," said Rick Brenner, Fisher Cats President. "It is clear that his fellow trainers think as highly of 'Tarp' as we do. He's incredibly hard working, is superb at his craft, and is one of the classiest people you'll meet. He is an outstanding ambassador for the Fisher Cats and the Toronto Blue Jays, and his selection as Trainer of the Year is well-deserved."

The award was voted on by Tarpey's fellow athletic trainers across minor league baseball, and it recognizes an athletic trainer who provides top notch care for his players and demonstrates a deep concern for his community and fellow athletic trainers.

Tarpey has served in the Fisher Cats' dugout for the past five seasons, and has been with the Blue Jays for nine years. He began his Blue Jays career with Rookie-level Pulaski in 2006, advancing through the ranks in the minor league system until he reached New Hampshire in 2010.

He is a native of York, Maine, and holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and a master's degree from California University near Pittsburgh, Pa.

The honor comes as part of a busy off-season for Tarpey. In addition to the two honors, he was married in early November.

The Fisher Cats will open the 2015 season on Thursday, April 9, at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium against the New Britain Rock Cats (Colorado Rockies).
