With their four-game sweep over the Houston Astros in the 2005 World Series, the Chicago White Sox snapped an 88-year drought and captured their first championship trophy since the 1917 season. Chicago's sweep in late October marked just the 19th time in World Series history that the feat had been accomplished in four games. Moreover, with their 11-1 record in the 2005 playoffs, the White Sox tied the second-best single-season winning percentage (.917) in post-season history.
Seven former Barons suited up for the White Sox in the 2005 post-season, including pitchers Mark Buehrle, Neal Cotts, Jon Garland and Bobby Jenks, infielder Joe Crede, outfielder Aaron Roward, and designated hitter Frank Thomas.
Buehrle (2000) recorded a save in game three while Cotts (2003) earned the victory in game two. Jenks (2005), who began the season in Birmingham, notched saves in both the opening and closing games of the World Series, becoming one of the most celebrated call-ups in recent Barons' history. While Rowand (2000) and Crede (1999-00) both hit .294 during the Fall Classic, Crede also added a pair of home runs (games one and three) and three runs batted in. Thomas (1990), who played in 34 regular-season games for the White Sox in 2005, spent the post-season on Chicago's disabled list.
