Ray, Ports shut down Mavs
Ray (3-1) gave up both hits and three walks while striking out six over six innings. The right-hander, who turns 22 on Friday, has won his last three games and lowered his ERA to 3.00.
Making his third rehab start for the Ports, Jay Witasick struck out two in one inning. The Oakland A's right-hander has been on the 15-day disabled list since June 20 with left ankle tendinitis.
Steven Sharpe and Michael Mitchell, who notched his 18th save, tossed an inning apiece.
Eduardo Cornejo had the Ports' first hit, a one-out double in the fourth. Myron Leslie and Landon Powell delivered RBI singles.
Cornejo finished with two hits to help Stockton (10-9) to its third straight win. A's outfielder Milton Bradley, who's on the DL with a strained shoulder, went 1-for-4.
High Desert starter Kyle Crist (5-2) retired the first 10 batters before allowing two runs in the fourth on his way to a hard-luck loss. He yielded seven hits and struck out seven in his first complete game of the season.
