G-Braves Promote Summer Reading

May 28, 2010

For the second consecutive year, the Gwinnett Braves will partner with the Gwinnett County Public Library's Summer Reading Program. The reading program is a fun and free way to encourage kids to read. Reading during school vacations helps maintain and even improve reading skills, and it's fun!

During the summer months, readers of all ages can set a goal, keep track of their reading activities, and collect great prizes. The Gwinnett Braves provide incentives to participating readers, giving each child that completes the program a ticket to a game at Coolray Field. This year the Gwinnett County Public Library dates are August 2nd and 3rd when the G-Braves take on the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers). Both games are at 7:05 p.m. All readers that are present will be invited to take part in a pregame, on-field parade and one winner each night will get to throw out the game's first pitch!

To assist the library in showing children how fun reading can be, several Gwinnett Braves players will be making stops at local libraries to read to children, answer questions, take pictures and sign autographs. Come see select G-Braves players at your local library on:

Tuesday, June 1 at 10:30 a.m. - Suwanee Library
Thursday, June 3 at 10:30 a.m. - Grayson Library
Thursday, June 3 at 10:30 a.m. - Lilburn Library
Friday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. - Collins Hill Library

Children of all ages that are interested in signing up may do so at gwinnettpl.org. Kids may also register on-site at any of the fifteen Gwinnett County Public Library branches. Whether you register online or in person, stop by any branch to pick up a registration packet with a reading record, sticker, bookmark, and coupons for free treats from local sponsors.
