Dream Factory BUZZ preview at June 1 Wings game

Head-shaving fundraiser part of Tuesday pregame on the field
May 28, 2010
On Tuesday June 1, the Red Wings will help to promote a unique fundraiser for The Dream Factory of Rochester - with a special on-field event that will feature at least one member of the Wings' front office having their head shaved at home plate.

The Dream Factory raises money locally to fulfilling the dreams of children in our community who have been diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses. A variety of schools, organizations and individuals have generously supported this organization. One of The Dream Factory’s most successful and favorite fundraising event is the Buzz The Red White and Blue…Make A Dream Come True" at Highland Bowl. Local Law Enforcement officers, EMTs/Paramedics, and Fire Fighters raise funds for The Dream Factory and then participate in a group head-shaving event at a very special “Barber”- Que.

This year a friendly competition has grown between the Rochester Area Fire Fighters (red team), Rural Metro (white team- also included in this team are Pittsford Ambulance, Chili Ambulance, and the US Post Office) and Rochester Police Department (blue team- including Gates, Greece and Sheriff). Their goal is to see which team- RED, WHITE, or BLUE -can raise the most funds and help to fulfill the most dreams.

The Dream Factory will have an information table at the Wings' Tuesday night June 1 home game for more information on the BUZZ event, and other local Dream Factory activities. Representatives from the organization will take part in a pre-game, on-field event to help spread the word about the BUZZ event. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. for the 7:05 p.m. contest against the Norfolk Tides.

The Dream Factory of Rochester is a local, volunteer organization dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of children in our community who have been diagnosed with critical or chronic illnesses. The Dream Factory of Rochester fulfilled their first dream in May 1999 when a young girl from Brockport travelled to Orlando, Florida. This month they have begun the process for their 111th dream recipient, a 15-year-old boy from Pittsford, NY who would like to meet the Yankees and attend a game in New York City.

A small sampling of these dream choices include- shopping sprees, back yard play equipment, swimming with dolphins, trips to Orlando, the Grand Canyon, England and Australia. We have arranged meetings with Kobe Bryant, Emeril Lagasse, Trace Adkins, the Pittsburgh Steelers and several other sports, music, and media celebrities.

Anyone who would like to contribute to one of the three teams (or The Dream Factory in general) can mail a donation to Dream Factory, PO Box 308 East Rochester, NY 14445 or make a secure donation on line at www.dreamfactoryincroc.org . Please be sure to indicate which team you want your donation put towards!

In addition, if you know of a child ages 3 through 18 who has been diagnosed with a critical or chronic illness and has not received a dream from any other organization, contact The Dream Factory at (585) 234-0740.
