Adams, Maness and Siegrist headline Cardinals Caravan on Friday, January 16

January 6, 2015

Springfield, MO - The St. Louis Cardinals Caravan will make its annual trip to Springfield on Friday, January 16. The Caravan will be held at Hammons Field in the Indoor Training Facility and is scheduled to start at 12:15pm. Lunch will be available for purchase at the event.

This year's attendees will feature former Springfield Cardinals and current St. Louis Cardinals Matt Adams, Seth Maness and Kevin Siegrist. Former St. Louis Cardinals Jason Simontacchi, who will be Springfield's Pitching Coach this year, and Kerry Robinson will also be a part of the Caravan. Cardinals Broadcaster John Rooney will serve as the emcee.

Adams, who won the 2011 Texas League Player of the Year Award while with Springfield, became the 42nd all-time Springfield Cardinal to debut for St. Louis on May 20, 2012. Adams has been a cornerstone for the Cardinals since his debut, compiling a .283 batting average with 34 home runs, 54 doubles and 132 RBIs through 277 games.

Both Maness and Siegrist helped the Springfield Cardinals capture their first-ever Texas League Championship in 2012, before becoming pivotal pieces of the St. Louis bullpen starting in 2013. Maness debuted with the Cardinals on May 3, 2013 and has gone 11-6 with a 2.66 ERA through 139 games over the past two seasons, registering a phenomenal 2.65 groundout/airout ratio. Siegrist was called up to St. Louis on June 6, 2013 and dominated big league bats in his first season with the Cardinals, going 3-1 with a miniscule 0.45 ERA through 45 outings that year, combining with Adams and Maness to help the Cardinals win the 2013 National League Championship.

Simontacchi and Robinson both bring a wealth of experience to the Caravan roster, combining to play in more than 550 Major League games throughout their careers, 437 of which came in a Cardinals uniform. Simontacchi suited up with St. Louis from 2002-04, posting a 20-10 record and a 4.77 ERA through 83 games and 40 starts with the Cardinals. Robinson roamed the outfield in St. Louis from 2001-03, putting together a .264 average with 80 runs scored and 46 RBIs through 354 games as a Cardinal.

Rooney is entering his 10th season of broadcasting Cardinals games with partner Mike Shannon. A Richmond, Missouri native, Rooney came to the Cardinals from the Chicago White Sox, where he spent 18 years (1988-2005) - one in TV and 17 seasons following in the radio booth. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in February, 2004.

Coinciding with the afternoon program at Hammons Field, the Springfield Cardinals will have a Garage Sale featuring jerseys, helmets, bats, and many other Cardinals collectibles used by some of your favorite players here in Springfield.

Doors will open for the 2015 Cardinals Caravan at 11:30am, with the event scheduled to run from 12:15 - 2pm. Admission for the Cardinals Caravan is $5 for adults and $3 for kids (ages 3-12). All admission proceeds will benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

On Friday evening, the Caravan will continue on to JQH Arena for the Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions where the players and Cardinals staff will sign autographs from approximately 7:15 - 8:15pm. A ticket to the Tournament of Champions will be required to attend the evening autograph session at JQH Arena, and times for the signing will be announced at a later date.

As in previous years, the St. Louis Cardinals will be implementing an Autograph Ticket system at each stop of the Caravan. The first 400 kids (15 and under) through the door on the day of the event will receive a free Autograph Ticket which guarantees one autograph from each current and former player. Due to high demand, autographs will only be available for fans 15 and under.
