SkyChiefs defeat Braves

Jamie Vermilyea allowed one run over seven innings as Syracuse doubled up Richmond, 6-3, on Saturday at Alliance Bank Stadium.

Vermilyea (3-5) scattered seven hits, struck out three and walked one, lowering his ERA to 3.70. The 24-year-old right-hander matched his longest outing of the season and has won two of his last three starts.

Wayne Lydon went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base to lead the SkyChiefs (42-51). Kevin Barker and Ryan Roberts each had three hits and an RBI as part of Syracuse's 12 hit-attack.

Richmond starter Ricardo Rodriguez (5-8) allowed five runs on 11 hits over seven innings with six strikeouts.

Gregor Blanco went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and fell a home run short of the cycle for the Braves (35-57), who have lost two of three. --Chip Haunss/MLB.com
