Myrtle Beach Pelicans announce 2015 schedule

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (JANUARY 15, 2015) - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, are pleased to announce their 2015 schedule. The 2015 season, which marks the 17th in the Carolina League for the Birds, opens at home on Thursday, April 9 against the Wilmington Blue Rocks at 7:05 p.m. The opener is part of a seven-game homestand at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark, featuring the Kansas City affiliate Blue Rocks and the Boston farm team Salem Red Sox.

The newly designed schedule features more games within the division as well as more summer home games with 19 in July and 16 in August. The schedule also favors the majority of Spring Break visitors with home games April 9-15 and April 23-26.

Promotionally, fans can expect the return of popular weekly staples such as Thirsty Thursday, with $1.00 draft beers; Wiener Wednesdays, featuring $1.00 hot dogs; post-game fireworks and more! While the full promotional schedule and fireworks dates will be released at a later date, shows can be expected on Opening Day as well as and July 2 and 3. Opening Day will also include a magnet schedule giveaway.

Fans will be able to celebrate a number of holidays with the defending Southern Division Champions. Myrtle Beach plays at home on Memorial Day (May 25 vs. Potomac) and Father's Day (June 21 vs. Lynchburg). The club will also celebrate Independence Day on July 2 and 3 as they host the Salem Red Sox.

All non-Sunday game times are 7:05 p.m. Sunday, April 11 and Sunday, April 26 are scheduled for 5:05 p.m. first pitch, while all other Sundays are set for 6:05 p.m. starts.


OPPONENT BREAKDOWN

Of the 70 home games, 36 come against the three Southern Division opponents. The Carolina Mudcats will frequent Myrtle Beach the most this upcoming season, playing 14 games at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. The Pelicans play 71 of the 140-game slate against the South, including 27 against rival Winston-Salem-the most of any opponent. They will play the Northern Division Frederick Keys the fewest times, matching up against the Orioles affiliate only 16 times.

FLASHBACK: 2014 - A RECORD BREAKING SEASON

The 2014 season was one for the record books. The Pelicans finished the first half with the best first-half winning percentage in team history, captured first and second half titles, won the Southern Division, and appeared in the Mills Cup Championship Series for the first time since 2008. The club also broke records at the gates. Fans poured into TicketReturn.Com Field at record pace setting a new franchise high for average attendance at 3,652 fans per game. Total attendance for the 2014 season, 241,026, ranked second in team history.
