Roster Report: 2014 Chihuahuas on the Move
The Padres hectic offseason has warmed up the El Paso Chihuahuas' Hot Stove. Below are updates on 2014 Chihuahuas, as well as potential members of the 2015 team. Please note any 2015 roster predictions are educated guesses and are subject to change.

2014 Chihuahuas on the Move
RHP Blaine Boyer: Signed a minor league deal with the Twins on January 7. The 33-year-old Boyer divided last season between El Paso and San Diego. He walked away from baseball in 2012 before coming out of retirement to pitch in Asia in 2013.
RHP Anthony Carter: Signed a minor league contract with the Cubs on December 18. It's understandable if Chihuahuas' fans don't remember Carter; he was with El Paso for only the first few weeks of the 2014 season and he never pitched at Southwest University Park.
LHP Juan Oramas: Claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays on December 19. Oramas pitched in 23 games for El Paso in 2014 and was designated for assignment by San Diego when the Padres signed RHP Brandon Morrow on December 16.
INF Jace Peterson: Traded to the Braves on December 19. Peterson was part of the deal that sent OF Justin Upton to the Padres. With the flurry of changes to Atlanta's roster, Peterson appears to have a strong chance to start the season in the Major Leagues.
OF Daniel Robertson: Traded from the Rangers to the Angels on November 20. Robertson was the first Chihuahua to make their Major League debut when he played for Texas against Oakland on April 29.
RHP Keyvius Sampson: Claimed off waivers by the Reds on January 8. Sampson spent the entire 2014 season with El Paso and was designated for assignment by San Diego when the Padres traded for Yankees' RHP Shawn Kelley.
RHP Burch Smith: Traded to the Rays on December 19. Smith was sent to Tampa Bay in the deal that netted the Padres Wil Myers. Smith appeared in two games for the Chihuahuas and missed most of the season with a forearm injury.
RHP Joe Wieland: Traded to the Dodgers on December 18. Wieland was one of three players acquired by Los Angeles in the deal that sent OF Matt Kemp to San Diego.
Potential 2015 Chihuahuas
LHP Scott Elbert: The 29-year-old reportedly signed with the Padres on January 7. Elbert has pitched in parts of six Major League seasons, all with the Dodgers. He posted a 2.07 ERA in seven Major League games last September coming back from injury.
C Griff Erickson: The 26-year-old San Diego native reportedly signed with his hometown organization on November 22. Erickson played in the Dodgers' system from 2006-2014 and does not have any Major League time.
RHP Marcos Mateo: The 30-year-old reportedly signed a minor league contract with the Padres on January 7, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock. Mateo pitched in 30 games for the Triple-A Iowa Cubs in 2014, including one appearance against El Paso. He pitched for the Chicago Cubs from 2010-2011.
OF Trayvon Robinson: The 27-year-old reportedly signed a minor league deal with San Diego on December 15. Robinson played against the Chihuahuas with Albuquerque last year and he has two years Major League experience with Seattle in 2011-2012.
RHP Jose Valverde: The 36-year-old would be the most experienced pitcher on the Chihuahuas' roster. Valverde has led the American or National League in saves three different times and was a Major League All-Star in 2007, 2010 and 2011. Valverde pitched for the Tigers in the 2012 World Series.
INF Brett Wallace: The 28-year-old reportedly signed with the Padres as a minor league free agent on December 23. He spent four seasons in the Major Leagues with the Astros and played for Chihuahuas' manager Pat Murphy in college at Arizona State.
New Pitch Clock?
Fox Sports reports all Double-A and Triple-A ballparks will have 20-second pitch clocks starting in April. Major League Baseball is evaluating ways to increase baseball's pace and could experiment with pitch clocks in minor league games. Batters would also be required to keep at least one foot in the box between pitches.
