I-Cubs' Quade to Chicago as third base coach

July 19, 2006
Iowa Cubs manager Mike Quade (KWAH-DEE) has been named interim third base coach for the Chicago Cubs.

Quade was promoted after the Cubs granted third base coach Chris Speier personal time off.

In his four seasons as Iowa's manager, Quade has posted a 261-258 record. He has a 1,185-1,144 record in 17 seasons as a manager in the Minor Leagues.

Quade is no stranger to the big leagues, having spent three seasons as the first base coach for the Oakland Athletics and also having coached three games at third base for the A's.

"I'm going in there quietly to do a job and do what Dusty needs me to do. Coaching third is tough to do, but managing and coaching third base as long as I have, I feel I can step in there and do a good job," said Quade.

Bobby Dickerson will serve as interim manager of the Iowa Cubs. In seven years as a manager in the Orioles and Cubs systems, Dickerson compiled a record of 447-385, and his clubs reached the postseason in five of those seven seasons. His Bluefield teams won the Appalachian League Championship in 1996 and 1997.

Dickerson had been serving as the roving Minor League infield and bunting coordinator for the Cubs in 2006.
