Baseball America's Top Padres Prospects
Baseball America released its annual Top 10 Padres Prospects list. Two list members played for the Chihuahuas in 2014 and multiple others could suit up for El Paso in 2015.
You can read the entire article on Baseball America's website. Here are some prospects with Chihuahuas ties that are mentioned in the article:
Matt Wisler, #1 Ranked Prospect: The 22-year-old Wisler split 2014 between Double-A San Antonio and El Paso. It will be interesting to see if Wisler starts 2015 with San Diego or if he's part of the Chihuahuas' April rotation.
Hunter Renfroe, #3 Ranked Prospect: Renfroe reached Double-A in 2014, only his second professional season. The former first round draft pick out of Mississippi State could join the Chihuahuas at some point in 2015.
Austin Hedges, #4 Ranked Prospect: Hedges' name regularly appears in articles about baseball's best catching prospects. The 22-year-old has thrown out 34% of baserunners in his four-year professional career. Hedges is another player Chihuahuas' fans could see at some point in 2015.
Cory Spangenberg, #5 Ranked Prospect: Spangenberg was called up by San Diego from Double-A San Antonio in late August and hit well in 20 games with the Padres. The Padres' active off-season makes it unclear if Spangenberg breaks camp as a utility player with San Diego or comes to El Paso as a middle infielder.
Rymer Liriano, #6 Ranked Prospect: Liriano had a busy 2014 season, with stops at Double-A San Antonio, El Paso and San Diego. Liriano hit .452 in a two-week stint with the Chihuahuas and impressed fans with a powerful throwing arm in right field.
Casey Kelly, #10 Ranked Prospect: Kelly has had multiple arm surgeries in the past three years but is still only 25-years-old. He was originally acquired by the Padres in the 2010 Adrian Gonzalez trade with Boston. El Paso fans might see Kelly as part of the 2015 starting rotation.
