B-Tribe Defeats The Devil Rays in Rubber Match

Fairchild earns first victory; Head and Garcia hit blasts
July 21, 2006
Burlington-The Indians won the first series of their six-game home stand on Thursday night. The Indians and the Princeton Devil Rays were tied at one game each before the rubber match.

Rick Fairchild earned his first professional victory, allowing no runs and just four hits while striking out three and walking one. Fairchild pitched five and 1/3 innings in his start, and he was then relieved by Jimmy Brettl. Brettl and Wilander Cruz finished the game without giving up a run, and the Indians got their first shutout of the season.

Jerad Head continued his power surge with a two-run homerun in the 4th inning. Head's shot was a towering fly ball over the left-center field fence. The homerun extended Burlington's lead to 3 runs. Head had sole possession of the Indians' homerun lead until Felipe Garcia hit his fourth homerun over the left-center field fence in the 6th inning. Garcia's blast put the B-Tribe up by 5, and Jose Chavez added one more run with an RBI double down the right-field line.

Six runs would be all the Indians' needed as the Devil Rays were unable to mount an offensive attack in the late innings.

Fairchild improved his record to 1 win and 2 losses. Lefty, Ryan Morse, of the Devil Rays took the loss dropping to 1 win and 3 losses on the season.

The B-Tribe will welcome the Kingsport Mets to Burlington Athletic Stadium on Friday night at 7:00 for a three game series. The Indians will go out of town on Monday, July 24th for a three game set with the Bluefield Orioles.
