BlueClaws Host First-Ever Manager's Luncheon 7/10
This is an opportunity for the fans to meet the manager and hear great stories about Parent's years in the majors, learn some of his tricks of the trade, and find out information about your favorite BlueClaws players.
Parent was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 4th round (92nd overall) of the 1979 MLB draft. He played in the minor leagues for eight years before making his major league debut for the Padres on September 20, 1986. He played with the Padres, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Detroit Tigers, and Philadelphia Phillies and made one playoff appearance with the Orioles in the 1996 American League Championship Series.
Following his playing career, managed one year (2000) in the Mariners' player development system for Lancaster (A) and was named Manager of the Year in the California League. After a few years away from the game, was the original manager of the Chico (CA) Outlaws in the Golden Baseball League, managing them for 3 seasons (2005-07) before retiring after a championship in 2007. He was named BlueClaws manager in December of 2009.
At the luncheon, Parent will speak and field questions on a variety of subjects, such as the day he caught 24 innings in 100 degree weather for the Phillies in 1998. Lunch is included, and for more information or how to sign up, please contact Danielle Hanula at 732-901-7000 ext. 121 or email [email protected].
All proceeds benefit BlueClaws Charities, the official non-profit foundation of the Lakewood BlueClaws. BlueClaws Charities donated over $150,000 to area non-profit organizations and fundraising events in 2009.
