Chiefs to host Area Code Games on Saturday, June 12
The tryout is by invitation only and players from the northeast must be nominated by a Major League scout. This is the 24th year of the Area Code Games, which has grown into one of the more highly regarded high school talent tournaments in the country. The Area Code Games have produced more than 300 Major League Baseball players.
In addition, Syracuse Sports Zone Academy will introduce four players who were drafted in this week's First-Year Player Draft, including New York Yankees 1st round selection Christopher "Cito" Culver.
The other drafted players include Mike Antonio, who was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 3rd round out of George Washington High School, Ryan Cole, who was drafted out of St. Johns University in the 21st round by the Houston Astros, Joe Carcone from New Hartford High School, drafted by the Houston Astros in the 42nd round, and Alexander Simone, selected by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 49th round out of Christian Brothers Academy.
Those players and other members of the Sports Zone Academy will play a double-header at Alliance Bank Stadium beginning at 3:00pm.
