Q&A: Aaron Altherr Sits Down with Mike Ventola
Fightin Phils radio broadcaster Mike Ventola is in Clearwater, Florida for Phillies Spring Training. Over his time in the Sunshine State, Ventola will sit down with Fightins alums and coaches about their spring training and 2015 season plans. Today, Ventola sits down with 2014 Fightins outfielder Aaron Altherr, who had two stints last season with the Philadelphia Phillies.
How was your offseason?
It was really good. I went down to Venezuela and played down there a couple months. I did real well and hopefully I can continue that into this upcoming season.
What are some of the goals for spring training?
Show I can work and play hard everyday. I want to leave a good impression. I want to make solid contact at the plate and get some nice hits. It's basically like that all the time and let the chips fall as they may.
Have you really had a chance to sit back and enjoy the spring training atmosphere?
Yeah definitely. Especially last year too because I couldn't do anything. I soaked it all in and see how guys went about their business. I just took that heart and tried to do the same.
Anybody give you any piece of advice so far while being in big league camp?
Yes. I've been told to be myself. It's the same game - just go out there and do your thing.
Is there a specific area you've been working on compared to other areas of your game?
As far as the swing not getting too long and just trying to shorten it up. It helps me be more consistent and driving the ball more consistently.
Do you get a chance to enjoy the area in Clearwater?
I go to the beach every now and then. I also go to the mall and and I really enjoy my time being down here.
