BayBears complete triple play

Ciriaco has hand in gem, drives in two in 4-1 win over Suns
July 30, 2006
Juan Ciriaco helped turn a triple play and drove in a pair of runs Sunday as the Mobile BayBears shut down the Jacksonville Suns, 4-1, at The Baseball Grounds.

Jacksonville had runners on first and second in the bottom of the fourth inning when Anthony Raglani ripped a line drive down the third base line. Third baseman Brett Dowdy snagged the ball, then threw to Ciriaco to double up Craig Brazell at second before Ciriaco ran down Tydus Meadows between first and second to complete the triple play.

Ciriaco also hit a two-run double, walked and stole a base.

Dowdy went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored, while Vince Sinisi drove in the other run for the BayBears (19-18) with a sacrifice fly in the third.

Starter Jack Cassel (3-0) stymied the Suns through seven innings, limiting them to an unearned run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Dale Thayer earned his 20th save after fanning two in the ninth.

The Suns (22-15) scored their only run in the third when Wilkin Ruan came home on Chin Lung Hu's single. Brazell went 2-for-4.

Alvis Ojeda (6-3) came away with the loss after giving up four runs on five hits, two walks and a wild pitch in four innings.
