Offensive Players of the Week
Delmon Young, Durham
.429 (12-28), 10 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 4 BB, 4 SO, 2 SB, 1.036 SLG
Scouts always rave about how Young is a five-tool player, but power was one tool that had been conspicuously absent from Young's arsenal in 2006. Through his first 199 at-bats on the season, the 20-year old phenom hit just two home runs. That all changed this week, as Young bashed four dingers and drove in 10 runs. The mercurial prospect went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs on Monday against Toledo, and 4-for-5 with two homers, four runs scored and four RBIs on Wednesday against Columbus.
Pacific Coast League
D'Angelo Jimenez, Sacramento
.542 (13-24), 10 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 7 BB, 1 SO, 0 SB, .958 SLG
A veteran of seven Major League seasons, Jimenez entered the week hitting .177 over 62 at-bats as a member of the River Cats. This week, however, he collected 13 hits in 24 at-bats and is now hitting .279. The 28-year-old infielder collected four straight multi-hit games this week, and currently has a seven-game hit streak. The highlight of Jimenez's stellar week came on Friday, when he went 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and four runs scored in Sacramento's 16-7 shellacking of Albuquerque.
Eastern League
Ryan Mulhern, Akron
.423 (11-26), 10 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 5 HR, 13 RBI, 1 BB, 3 SO, 0 SB, 1.192 SLG
Coming into the week, Mulhern had hit just one homer in the month of July. He quickly turned it around this week, as the 25-year-old smashed five dingers over just 26 at-bats, including his second two-homer game of the season on Wednesday against Erie. Mulhern's recent hot stretch has raised his average to .274 on the season, the highest it has been since June 15.
Southern League
Stephen Smitherman, Mobile
.414 (12-29), 5 R, 2 2B, 0 3B, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 3 BB, 7 SO, 0 SB, .897 SLG
Smitherman has hit safely in 10 straight games. Within those 10 games, the 27-year-old posted five consecutive two-hit games and three in a row in which he blasted a home run. Smitherman terrorized the Mississippi Braves' pitching staff from Monday thru Friday, going 10-for-22 with two home runs and 10 RBIs.
Texas League
Alex Gordon, Wichita
.500 (13-26), 10 R, 3 2B, 0 3B, 5 HR, 11 RBI, 1 BB, 3 SO, 1 SB, 1.192 SLG
Gordon has hit safely and scored at least one run in each of his past 11 games. But the 22-year-old's most impressive streak took place between Monday and Friday, as the first-round draft pick homered in four straight contests. Gordon's best game of the week came on Friday, as he went 4-for-5 with a homer, two doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored as the Wranglers pounded Arkansas, 18-8.
California League
Nick Blasi, Stockton
.462 (12-26), 5 R, 4 2B, 1 3B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 4 SO, 0 SB, .808 SLG
Blasi's week was anything but blasé, as the 24-year-old extended his hit streak to 17 straight games. During this streak, Blasi has raised his average from a sickly .208 to a robust .304. The center fielder collected three hits on both Saturday and Sunday, as Stockton picked up a pair of victories against Bakersfield.
Carolina League
Neil Walker, Lynchburg
.500 (13-26), 5 R, 3 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SO, 0 SB, .846 SLG
The most impressive Walker this side of Texas Ranger, Neil's excellent week was highlighted by a pair of four-hit performances against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The 20-year-old native of Pittsburgh went 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs on Friday, and followed that up on Sunday by going 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs.

Brendan Katin, Brevard County
.522 (12-23), 6 R, 4 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SO, 0 SB, .957 SLG
Katin went hitless in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against Dunedin, marking the only time this week in which he did not hit safely. The right fielder more than made up for it in the nightcap, as he went 4-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs to lead the Manatees to a 9-6 victory. Katin is now hitting .333 in the month of July and has raised his average to .297 on the season.
Midwest League
Michael Hernandez, West Michigan
.387 (12-31), 6 R, 3 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 1 BB, 3 SO, 0 SB, .839 SLG
Hernandez receives Player of the Week honors on the strength of two monster games. On Tuesday, the 22-year-old hit for the cycle for the second time this season and drove in five runs as West Michigan blanked Peoria, 10-0. Five days later, Hernandez went 4-for-6 with two homers and seven RBIs as the Whitecaps pounded Clinton, 13-6.
South Atlantic League
Vito Chiaravalloti, Delmarva
.385 (10-26), 8 R, 3 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 4 BB, 5 SO, 0 SB, .846 SLG
Chiaravalloti hit safely in all seven games he played this week and 14 of the 16 he has played with Delmarva since making his debut with the club on July 13. The 25-year-old slugged three homers and three doubles on the week, and 11 of his 19 hits with the Shorebirds have gone for extra bases.
New York-Penn League
Zachary Daeges, Lowell
.667 (14-21), 6 R, 3 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 3 BB, 3 SO, 0 SB, 1.095 SLG
Daeges collected a hit in two-thirds of his at-bats this week, and his .374 average is second in the New York-Penn League. The 22-year-old went 4-for-4 against Aberdeen on Tuesday and homered and drove in three runs against Vermont on Friday. The highlight of his week came on Sunday, however, as the left fielder went 4-for-5 with a homer, five RBIs and three runs scored. It wasn't enough, however, as the Lake Monsters defeated the Spinners, 8-7.
Northwest League
Christopher Davis, Spokane
.560 (14-25), 8 R, 8 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 4 BB, 5 SO, 0 SB, 1.240 SLG
Davis is in the midst of a 16-game hit streak, increasing his average from .151 to .280 in that span. The 20-year-old has collected an RBI in seven straight ballgames, and 11 of his 14 hits this week went for extra bases. Davis now leads the Northwest League in home runs (10) and slugging percentage (.598), while his 12 doubles rank second.
Appalachian League
Kieron Pope, Bluefield
.462 (12-26), 8 R, 6 2B, 0 3B, 3 HR, 9 RBI, 5 BB, 5 SO, 1 SB, 1.038 SLG
Pope's 15-game hit streak ended on Sunday, but let's focus on the positive. The 19-year-old had four multi-hit games on the week and drove in a run in five contests. Pope's .346 average is third in the Appalachian League, while his 29 RBIs and 45 hits both rank second.
Pioneer League
Daniel Dorn, Billings
.455 (10-22), 4 R, 3 2B, 0 3B, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 3 BB, 4 SO, 0 SB, .864 SLG
