Junior Grizzlies Baseball League begins March 21st with Spring Training Jamboree

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies Community Fund is recruiting new players for the 2015 Junior Grizzlies season through Wednesday, March 18th. Junior Grizzlies is a co-ed, non-competitive baseball league that gives athletes with special needs the opportunity to be a part of an organized baseball team. The Grizzlies Community Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, launches the eight-week season with the Spring Training Jamboree on Saturday, March 21st, with games continuing on Saturdays from March 28th through May 30th. Registered players of all skill levels (ages four and up) will play games at the "Field of Dreams," located behind Gateway High School in Clovis.

A registration fee of $50 per player will include the Spring Training Jamboree on March 21st, a Junior Grizzlies hat and t-shirt, individual and team photos, a Junior Grizzlies trophy, a Junior Grizzlies Night at a 2015 Fresno Grizzlies game, as well as an end-of-year Home Run Derby at Chukchansi Park with select Fresno Grizzlies players.

To register, interested players and coaches must download and complete a registration form. In the last two years, over 300 participants from the Central Valley have competed in Junior Grizzlies.

The Spring Training Jamboree will kick off the season on Saturday, March 21st and will allow all league players to practice, as well as get to know each other in a fun environment. The Jamboree will be broken up into two segments according to age range. All players must bring their own baseball glove. Water will be provided for all players, but a refillable water bottle is recommended.

ABOUT JUNIOR GRIZZLIES

A flagship of the Grizzlies Community Fund, the Junior Grizzlies program has been growing yearly since its launch in 2007. All Junior Grizzlies games are played at the "Field of Dreams," which was built in 2007 by the Grizzlies Community Fund. This special baseball diamond is made out of a rubberized surface that is safe for all participants. The field was made possible by support from Granite Construction, Fansler Foundation, SC Johnson and St. Agnes Medical Center. In addition to using the field for all Junior Grizzlies games and practices, the field is utilized by Clovis Unified School District for special education classes and district events.

ABOUT THE FRESNO GRIZZLIES

The Fresno Grizzlies are the Triple-A Baseball affiliate of the Houston Astros and play their home games in Downtown Fresno at Chukchansi Park from April through September. As a member of the 16-team Pacific Coast League, the Grizzlies are one of 30 baseball teams playing the highest form of Minor League Baseball.
