Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame to Induct Four New Members on Aug. 6
More than 1,800 baseball fans voted
online and through the mail and chose
Formal induction into the Charleston
Baseball Hall of Fame takes place on the field of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park on
Friday, August 6, prior to the Charleston RiverDogs - Savannah Sand Gnats game
that begins at
Glaze was a standout on The
Citadel's baseball and football teams and was named Southern Conference Athlete
of the Year in 1986. He earned
first-team all-conference honors in football in 1985 and was a two-time
first-team All-SoCon selection in baseball. The
Walters, who is being enshrined
posthumously, was a veteran American Legion coach who guided West Ashley Legion
team for approximately 25 years and recorded several state
titles.
Wilkinson is the popular longtime
coach in
An advisory committee consisting of
knowledgeable and local volunteers was created to come up with 12 names as
potential nominees. Voting was
conducted by the readership of The Post
and Courier through an official ballot that appeared in the paper and
online.
The Charleston Baseball Hall of Fame
is jointly coordinated and operated by The Post and Courier and the
RiverDogs. The Hall of Fame is
located inside Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
