Angels and Bees to Play Spring Training Exhibition Game

The Angels and the Salt Lake Bees will play a split-squad exhibition contest on March 22, 2016 at Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City. It will mark the first meeting between the two clubs since the Bees became an Angel affiliate back in 2001 and the first meeting between the Bees and their parent club since squaring off with the Minnesota Twins back in 1999.
Salt Lake was also the Angels Triple-A affiliate from 1971-81 and the franchise - then known as the Salt Lake Gulls - faced the Angels in exhibition games on July 31, 1975, August 2, 1976 and May 11, 1981. From 1971-1974, the franchise was known as the Salt Lake Angels. That franchise eventually moved to Calgary in 1985 and is now the Albuquerque Isotopes.
The Angels and Bees current affiliation has spanned the last 15 seasons and has since become the Halos' longest tenured Triple-A affiliate in franchise history. During the 15 seasons as the Club's senior farmhand stop, the Bees have helped produce the likes of 2014 A.L. MVP and 2012 Rookie of the Year Mike Trout, three-time All-Star Jered Weaver, 2014 A.L. All-Star Erick Aybar, Garrett Richards and Kole Calhoun among others and it was also the final stop for the likes of Chone Figgins, Jose Molina, John Lackey before joining the club for the 2002 World Series run. As it presently stands, 22 Angels on the current 40-man roster have appeared during their careers with the Salt Lake Bees.
During the 2014 season, 33 players wore both a Bees' and Angels' uniform. Contributing players like C.J. Cron, Grant Green, Matt Shoemaker and Efren Navarro emerged from Salt Lake last season to help the Angels win the American League West division and collect a Major League-best 98 wins. Salt Lake has won over 1,000 games, five division championships and made two trips to the Pacific Coast League finals while an Angels affiliate.
Game time will be 4:05pm.
