Renegades doing just Fines

Hudson Valley righty beats Spinners for third straight win
August 1, 2006
Woods Fines combined with Erik Walker on a three-hitter Tuesday night as the Hudson Valley Renegades blanked the Lowell Spinners, 7-0, at LeLacheur Park.

Fines (4-2) won his third straight start, allowing three singles and a walk over seven innings while striking out six. He retired the first nine batters and faced the minimum through 5 2/3 frames, thanks to a pair of double plays.

The 20-year-old right-hander has given up two runs on nine hits over 20 innings during his winning streak, lowering his ERA to 3.75.

Walker struck out the side in the eighth and also pitched a perfect ninth to nail down the Renegades' second win in six games.

Maiko Loyola and John Matulia each had three hits for Hudson Valley. Loyola drove in a run with a forceout in the first and doubled home Joseph Callender in the fifth to extend the Renegades' lead to 5-0. Matulia contributed an RBI single in the ninth.

Spinners starter Brian Steinocher (0-1) was charged with five runs -- one earned -- on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Ryan Khoury, Reid Engel and Jeff Vincent had the hits for Lowell, which has lost three in a row.
