Jays one win away from 1st half title

Three game set with Tampa to determine North Division champs
June 21, 2010
It's about as thrilling as non-playoff baseball can get: The first and second place teams battling it out for a division title in the last series of the season.

The Dunedin Blue Jays and Tampa Yankees will do battle over the final three games of the first half of the FSL season, and one of the teams will be crowned champions of the North Division and earn an automatic berth into the FSL playoffs in September.

The Blue Jays hold on to a three game lead over Tampa, meaning that only one win is necessary for Dunedin to be crowned champions. For the Yankees, they will have to sweep all three games in Dunedin to win a division crown for the second straight season.

Dunedin hasn't won a division title since 2008, when they were crowned champions in the West Division in the second half of the season. They eventually lost to Fort Myers in the first round of the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Tampa is the defending FSL Champions, having won the second half of the season last year in the North Division. They defeated Brevard County in the first round of the playoffs and then took care of the South Division's Charlotte Stone Crabs in the championship series.

All three games will be at Dunedin Stadium, with the series opener on Monday night at 7 p.m. Tickets are available for each game by visiting the Dunedin Stadium box office before game time.

Dunedin will send Major League rehabber Scott Richmond to the hill on Monday night, who is making his third start since returning from shoulder issues that have kept him on Toronto's 60-Day disabled list for entire season. He has earned a win in each of his other two starts, giving up only three earned runs in 11 2/3 innings.

Notes: Dunedin lost two out of their three games overall in Daytona, getting blown out on Friday night, 12-4 and losing in 11 innings on Saturday night, 3-2. Mike McDade hit his FSL-leading 14th home run in the Saturday tilt, and is now tied with Las Vegas (Triple-A) catcher J.P. Arrencibia for the Blue Jays organizational lead in that category...Dunedin finished their road trip 2-4, their first losing road trip of the season. They remain the best team away from home in the FSL at 23-12.
