June 22, 2010

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have reinstated right-handed pitcher Chris Sampson from the 15-day Disabled List, General Manager Ed Wade announced this evening.

To make room on the 25-man active roster, the Astros have also optioned left-handed pitcher Wesley Wright to Triple A Round Rock. The moves are effective immediately. Sampson is in uniform at Minute Maid Park and available to pitch in tonight's 7:05 p.m. game vs. San Francisco.

Sampson, who was placed on the DL on June 1 with tendinitis in his right biceps, has made three minor league rehab appearances, hurling a scoreless inning in each of them. He last pitched an inning for Round Rock on Sunday. Prior to going on the DL, Sampson appeared in 22 games for the Astros, posting an 0-0 record with a 6.30 ERA (14ER/20IP). Sampson had posted a 1.50 ERA (3ER/18IP) in his first 19 appearances this season, and then struggled in his next three outings (11ER/2IP) before being placed on the DL. Sampson, 32, is 19-15 in 161 career Major League appearances (33 starts) with a 4.39 ERA (170ER/348IP).

Wright began the 2010 season at Round Rock before being recalled on May 28. In six Major League appearances this season, all in relief, he was 0-0 with a 5.59 ERA (6ER/9.2IP) with three walks and seven strikeouts.
