Donors give to River Cats' Wives Drive

Donations of food, money reach all-time high
August 6, 2006
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Sacramento River Cats, along with partner Certified Angus Beef, announced Saturday that their seventh annual River Cats' Wives Food Drive collected more than 6,000 pounds of food and $3,000 for local families. The food and money will be donated to Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services. Through Raley's "Food for Families" Program, every dollar raised by the River Cats' Wives Food Drive will buy $10 worth of food and goods for Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services.

Fans at the game received one autographed photo of their favorite River Cats player for each non-perishable food or monetary donation made. River Cats' wives and families were stationed at each gate to Raley Field from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

This year's total of food and monetary donations marks the highest since the program's inception in 2000.

Since 2000, the River Cats' Wives Food Drive has collected more than 28,000 pounds (or 14 tons) of food and $13,400 for local families.
