Five Cubs record two hits in win

August 6, 2006
Buck Coats and Casey McGehee each had a pair of hits and a trio of RBI each as the Iowa Cubs took game one of four from the Portland Beavers by the score of 10-5 on Sunday afternoon.

Coats collected his RBI on two timely singles, but McGehee plated all three of his RBI on one swing in a five-run seventh inning. With the score 5-3 in the seventh, Portland would load the bases for the Cubs courtesy of two walks and an intentional pass to Michael Restovich. After Micah Hoffpauir walked and pushed the score to 6-3, McGehee deposited an Erick Burke pitch over the head of right-fielder Jon Knott to clear the bases and break the game open. Iowa would add one more in the inning, giving them 10 runs for the third time in 15 games after not being able to score 10 in a game for the first 101 contests of the year.

Ryan O'Malley improved to 6-7 on the year, giving up two runs in five innings or work. Jared Wells was tagged with the loss, his sixth of the year compared to just one win.

The Cubs and Beavers meet for game two of the series on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. CT.
