Leury Garcia ('09-'10, SS/ Charlotte- Chicago White Sox) slugged a two-run homer, singled, walked twice, scored two runs and stole a base for the Knights in their 10-2 rout of the parent club White Sox.

 

BIRTHDAYS:

Martin Perez ('09, P) turns 24. The native of Guanare, Estado Portguesa, Venezuela signed with the Rangers as an international free agent in 2007. Perez went 5-5 in 22 games (14 starts) with a 2.31 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 93.2 innings. He was part of a combined no-hitter that season and along with Jake Brigham, set the club record for strikeouts in a nine-inning game with 17. Perez made his big league debut for Texas on 6/27/12. He is currently on the disabled list after "Tommy John" surgery last year.

Odubel Herrera ('11, 2B/ Philadelphia) found out he would be the opening-day centerfielder for the Phillies, then went 3-4 with a solo HR (2) in the third.

 

BIRTHDAYS:

Ryan Doumit ('01-'02, C) turns 34. The native of Moses Lake, WA was the second-round pick of the Pirates in 1999 out of Moses Lake High School. After batting .279 in 39 games in 2001, Doumit posted a .322 average in 68 games with 14 doubles, one triple, six homers and 47 RBI. He rose through the minor league ranks and made his big league debut with Pittsburgh on 6/5/05. A steady perform for the Pirates through 2011, Doumit signed a two-year contract with Minnesota. He then played last year for Atlanta and is now a free agent.

Derek Kopacz ('98, 1B) turns 40. The native of Lockport, IL signed with the White Sox as a free agent in 1998 after playing two seasons with Sioux City of the independent Frontier League. Kopacz batted .149 in 13 games with two doubles and eight RBI before his release. He went on to play five seasons in the Northern League, closing out his career in 2003 at Joliet.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY: ­

Jose Bautista ('02, 3B/ Toronto) slugged his sixth homer of the spring for Toronto in its win over Philadelphia. He also walked and scored a run.

 

BIRTHDAYS:

Carlos Chantres ('96, P) turns 39. The native of Miami, FL was the 12th round pick of the White Sox in 1994 out of Columbus High in Miami. In 18 starts for Hickory, Chantres went 6-7 with a 3.76 ERA and 93 Ks in 119.2 innings. He remained in the White Sox chain through 2000 at AAA Charlotte, then went on the pitch for the Brewers (2001), Devil Rays (2002) and back to the White Sox (2002). After two seasons away in Mexico and the independent Atlantic League, he came back in mid-2004 with the Phillies chain. Chantres was a long-time pitching coach in the lower levels of the Yankees' farm teams and is now at SS-A Connecticut in the Tigers system.

Jeremy Williams ('12, OF) turns 28. The native of Geneva, AL was the 36th round pick of the Rangers in 2011 out of the University of Mobile. Williams batted .304 in 64 games with 18 doubles, eighth homers and 42 RBI. He finished up 2012 at high-A Myrtle Beach. Since his release from the Rangers, Williams has played with independent league teams at Maui (2013), Lancaster and Amarillo (2014).

Robbie Ross ('10, P/ Boston) threw 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out two for the Red Sox in their 14-2 win over Minnesota.

 

BIRTHDAYS:

Ryan Cordell ('14, OF) turns 23. The native of Sacramento, CA was the 11th round pick of the Rangers in 2013 out of Liberty University. Cordell batted .321 in 73 games for Hickory with 18 doubles, four triples, eight homers and 40 RBI. He finished up last season at high-A Myrtle Beach.

Chris Cron ('96-'97, Manager) turns 51. The native of Placentia, CA came to the White Sox in 1995 after the conclusion of his playing days with the team in 1995. Cron led the Crawdads to a 131-149 overall record, which included a playoff spot in 1997. He has since been a manager in the Rockies and Tigers systems and is now the minor league hitting coordinator for the Diamondbacks.

Taylor Dennis ('12, P) turns 26. The native of Covington, IN was the 34th round pick of the Rangers in 2011. Dennis went 3-0 in 21 relief outings with four saves and a 2.12 ERA. He last pitched for the Rangers in 2013 at high-A Myrtle Beach before throwing last year for Evansville of the independent Frontier League.

Keone Kela ('13, P) continues to press his case for an opening-day roster spot with the Rangers. On Sunday, he struck out two in his lone inning of work and now has ten in 8 1/3 innings over eight relief outings.

 

BIRTHDAYS:

Dario Delgado ('05, 1B) turns 35. The native of Santo Domingo, D.R. was a free agent signee of the Pirates after his release from the Phillies. Delgado went 5-for-18 with an RBI over six games before he was let go. The remainder of his career played out with Atlantic League teams at Atlantic City (2005-2006), Newark (2006) and Lancaster (2007).

Mike Johnston ('00-'01, P) turns 35. The native of Landsdowne, PA was the 20th round pick of the Pirates in 1998 out of Garrett College (MD). After posting a 4-2 mark with a 6.22 ERA in 26 relief outings in 2000, Johnston improved as a starter going 4-5 in 16 games with a 3.38 ERA. Overall in 144 innings, he struck out 132 and walked 72. He made his big league debut with Pittsburgh on 4/7/04 and spent parts of two seasons with the Bucs. From there he played in the White Sox chain in 2009, and finally at Lancaster in 2012 of the independent Atlantic League.

Ryan Rodebaugh ('11, P) turns 26. The native of Marietta, GA was the 15th round pick of the Rangers in 2010 out of Kennesaw (GA) St. Rodebaugh posted a 1-2 mark with 14 saves and a 0.41 ERA in 28 relief outings for Hickory. He remains with the Rangers, pitching the past two seasons at AAA Round Rock.
