Knights Reveal 2015 Broadcast Schedule

March 30, 2015

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Charlotte Knights baseball will once again return to the airwaves in 2015 as the Knights and 2G Media, Inc. will continue their partnership during the team's second season at BB&T Ballpark. Starting with the White Sox exhibition game on Friday, April 3, ESPN Radio 730 AM -- the radio flagship home of Knights baseball -- will broadcast all 145 Knights games this year. As part of the partnership, fans can also listen online at espn730.com and charlotteknights.com.

"Marty Hurney and I are excited to continue our partnership with the Charlotte Knights," said 2G Media, Inc. VP, General Manager Lanny Ford. "The Knights have in a short time become a great uptown partner for the city of Charlotte and a great organization to partner with, we are looking forward to continue as their flagship station here on ESPN 730."

Much like in 2014, the upcoming 2015 season will once again boast a strong radio broadcast presence all season long. Back for a second season to partner with the Knights is News Talk 1110 WBT, who will broadcast "Saturday Knight Baseball" on eight occasions this season. Starting with Friday's White Sox exhibition game, WBT will also broadcast Knights games on April 18, May 2, May 16, June 20, July 18, August 8, and August 22.

The Charlotte Knights and WMYT My12, unit of FOX Television Stations, have also agreed on a deal that will make WMYT My12 the television home of Charlotte Knights baseball for all 10 Saturday home games this season. Starting with the game on Saturday, April 11 against the Norfolk Tides (Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles), FOX Television Stations will utilize the in-house HD quality video feed produced from BB&T Ballpark, along with the radio broadcast feed from the Charlotte Knights Radio Network.

"We are very pleased to continue our partnerships with ESPN Radio 730 AM, WBT Radio, and WMYT for the upcoming season," stated Knights Chief Operating Officer Dan Rajkowski. "Partnering with Lanny Ford and Marty Hurney at ESPN Radio for 144 regular season games and the White Sox game is great for all of our listeners. Adding WBT Radio and WMYT back as part of our Saturday broadcasts will give us another great opportunity to continue to connect with our fans."

Matt Swierad returns for his 18th season as the "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" on ESPN Radio 730 AM and also on WMYT for all Saturday games. A veteran of over 3,000 professional baseball broadcasts, Swierad began calling games for the Knights in 1998. His radio career has spanned 25 seasons, including seven years in the Class-A South Atlantic League with the Gastonia Rangers (1991-92), Hagerstown Suns (1993), and Hickory Crawdads (1994-97).

Joining Swierad in the booth all season on ESPN 730 AM and all 10 WMYT television broadcasts will be Mike Pacheco, who returns for his 11th season with the Charlotte Knights. The 24-year broadcast veteran originally came to the Knights after spending four seasons as the director of broadcasting and play-by-play announcer for the Kannapolis Intimidators.

Former Knights hurler Jake Robbins will accompany Swierad and Pacheco in the booth for all Saturday home games on both ESPN Radio 730 AM and WMYT. Robbins, a Charlotte native, was originally drafted by the New York Yankees in the 11th round of the 1994 draft. A product of Myers Park High School, Robbins made his Major League debut with the Cleveland Indians on September 20, 2004. He appeared in 20 games for the Knights in 2007.

"All of us at WMYT are delighted to team up once again with the Charlotte Knights," said Karen Adams, Vice President and General Manager, WJZY/WMYT. "We are looking forward to bringing 10 Saturday night home games to viewers across the Charlotte region on WMYT Channel 55. WMYT is the sister station of WJZY Fox 46 Charlotte, and both stations are owned by FOX Television Stations Inc."

WBT Sports Director Jim Szoke will return to the BB&T Ballpark radio broadcast booth and have the call for all eight "Saturday Knight Baseball" broadcasts, including the April 3rd Chicago White Sox exhibition game. A veteran on-air sports personality in the Charlotte area and a color commentator for Carolina Panthers games on WBT, Szoke will continue to be joined in the booth by a rotation of the WBT personalities throughout the season.

Baseball returns home to BB&T Ballpark on Friday, April 3 as the Knights host the Chicago White Sox in the first exhibition game in Charlotte since 1984 when the Charlotte O's played host to the Baltimore Orioles. Opening Knight of the 2015 season is set for Thursday, April 9. Single-game tickets for all games at BB&T Ballpark are on sale now and can be purchased online at charlotteknights.com, in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office, or by phone at 704-274-8282.
