Eury Perez to Play in Futures Game

June 25, 2010
Hagerstown Suns outfielder Eury Perez has been selected to the World Team for the 12th annual All-Star Futures Game.

The Futures Game is held on Sunday, July 11th at Angel Stadium of Anaheim as part of Major League Baseball's All-Star Week. The game will be a nine-inning contest featuring some of the best minor league prospects from the United States against those from other nations, including Perez's native Dominican Republic.

In 2010, Perez, who turned 20 this past May, has hit .257 with two home runs and 20 RBI. He has 23 stolen bases, only getting caught seven times.

While playing for the GCL Nationals in 2009, Perez had a strong season batting .381, highest in the Gulf Coast League by nearly 50 points, with three home runs and 16 stolen bases. His performance helped lead the team to the league championship over the GCL Marlins.

Harrisburg Senators shortstop Danny Espinosa is the only other Washington Nationals prospect selected. He will face off against Perez on the 2010 U.S. Team.

The Suns play game two of their five-game homestand against the Hickory Crawdads Friday night at 7:05 p.m.

The Hagerstown Suns play at Municipal Stadium in Hagerstown, MD and are a Class "A" affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
