Red Sox Release RHP Felipe Paulino

March 31, 2015

The Boston Red Sox today released right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino.

Executive Vice President/General Manager Ben Cherington made the announcement.

Paulino, 31, appeared in relief in four Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox as a non-roster invitee, last on March 20 against the Orioles. He posted a 2.25 ERA (1 ER/4.0 IP) and held opponents to a .143 batting average (2-for-14), striking out three batters and walking one.

Signed by the Red Sox as a minor league free agent in January, Paulino has pitched in parts of six big league seasons with the Astros (2007, 2009-10), Rockies (2011), Royals (2011-12), and White Sox (2014), going 13-34 with a 5.22 ERA and 373 strikeouts in 403.2 innings. Paulino, who has made 225 appearances (152 starts) in his major league career, was limited to just four outings with Chicago in 2014 due to right rotator cuff inflammation.

With the transaction, the Red Sox now have 43 players in big league camp, including 32 active players from the 40-man roster, 10 non-roster invitees, and one player on the disabled list.
