Odubel Herrera to Debut in Majors for Phillies

2011 Crawdads Second Baseman No. 132 to Majors
April 4, 2015

Odubel Herrera, the starting second baseman for the Hickory Crawdads in 2011, will become the 132nd former player to get to the major leagues when he starts in centerfield for the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday against the Boston Red Sox.

Herrera was a steady force in the Crawdads lineup during their playoff run. The South Atlantic League All-Star batted .306 with 26 doubles, three triples, three homers and 56 RBI. The speedster also stole 36 bases and scored 72 runs. His 110 singles are the seventh most in a single-season for Hickory. As a second baseman he is in the top-ten in most of the Crawdads single-season and overall club marks, including the second most double plays (72) turned at the position.

He made the climb up the Rangers chain, playing at High-A Myrtle Beach from 2012 to 2014 and AA Frisco in 2013 and 2014, during which he played in the Texas League All-star game both seasons.

Herrera was a "Rule 5" pick of the Phillies in December and put together a stellar spring training as he batted .343 and stole seven bases in 21 games.
