Behind The Scenes: Canadians Diamond Vision

A look at the handful of people that help bring the C's new scoreboard to life
June 27, 2010
(Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium) - Anyone that has been out to newly named Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium has seen it, and the many that have say the new Canadians Diamond Vision might be the most significant ballpark upgrade in the stadium's history.

With a high-definition video board that is 28-feet wide by 18-feet high, Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium really has taken on a new identity with a place that fans can focus on and get more information about the Canadians and their business partners than ever before.

Shortly after making the purchase and installation, the Canadians welcomed a familiar face to become the first ever Director of Canadians Diamond Vision, co-host of Vancouver Canadians Game Day, Lou Filippo.

Filippo has been with the team for a few years, working mainly in the media relations department in addition to helping with the Team1040 Sports Radio broadcasts. During the off-season, Filippo was approached about changing roles and focusing more on the new Canadians initiative and he accepted knowing the challenges that were in front of him.

"We have been pretty happy so far with what we have been able to accomplish with the board. David McPhail has been extremely helpful with the content creation and Yovanka Chiara has been the perfect complement with her expertise editing our items," says Filippo who helps lead the group through the pre-game and in-game presentation.

"I also think having someone like Cindy Park host on the video board really personalizes our presentation. She is very likable and can bring our fans the little reminders and insight that make the overall ballpark experience that much more enjoyable," add Filippo. McPhail has experience working with video content and stadium presentation having been a part of the Vancouver Giants efforts at the Pacific Coliseum prior to his role with the C's.

McPhail builds the graphic pages and helps ensure that the day-by-day content is fresh and something the fans can enjoy.

"It really changes the whole experience for the better," says NatPack holder James Joyce who says he will likely increase the number of game he attends as a request of the new video board.

"We get in at 9am usually and just start building. With game re-caps, nightly promotions and countless other segments - it keeps us busy, but it's a ton of fun," adds McPhail.
