Brewers Announce Sky Sox Preliminary Opening Day Roster
The Milwaukee Brewers and Colorado Springs Sky Sox are excited to usher in a new era of Sky Sox baseball with the announcement of the team's preliminary Opening Day roster for the 2015 Pacific Coast League season. The season gets underway on Thursday, April 9th at Security Service Field against the Nashville Sounds with first pitch slated for 6:35pm. The preliminary 28-man roster contains 15 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders and four outfielders. The roster will be cut down to 25 prior to Thursday's season opener.
The Sky Sox roster features seven of Milwaukee's top-30 prospects, according to Baseball America, including likely Opening Night starter and former first-round pick Taylor Jungmann (10). Fellow pitchers David Goforth (12), Jed Bradley (20), Tyler Cravy (24), Drew Gagnon (26), Ariel Peńa (29) and infielder Jason Rogers (27) join Jungmann as Milwaukee's top-prospects on the Sky Sox roster. In addition, MLB.com tabbed reliever Corey Knebel as the Brewers' 10th ranked prospect heading into the 2015 season.
The roster includes 10 members of Milwaukee's current 40-man roster. Top-prospects Goforth, Jungmann, Knebel, Rogers and Peńa are joined by a strong group of big-league experienced players in Juan Centeno, Matt Clark, Brandon Kintzler, Shane Peterson, Luis Sardinas and Rob Wooten.
While the entire Sky Sox team will have a new look given the new affiliation, Milwaukee's current Triple-A squad returns 10 players from the 2014 team that went 77-67 while partnered with the Nashville Sounds. Diaz, Clark, Cravy, Jungmann, Peńa, Rogers and Wooten are accompanied by LHP Brent Leach and infielders Elian Herrera and Pete Orr as the remaining members of that Nashville team making the transition to Colorado Springs. The club will also feature highly-regarded talents in recently-acquired shortstop Luis Sardinas and outfielders Bryan Petersen and Matt Long. The complete roster breakdown by position can be seen below and a full roster is attached.
