Wandy Rodriguez Assigned to Round Rock
ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Texas Rangers announced tonight the club signed left-handed pitcher Wandy Rodriguez to a minor league contract. He has been assigned to the Round Rock Express and is expected to be on the team's Opening Day roster.
Rodriguez, 36, has pitched in the major leagues in each of the last 10 seasons, with a majority of those (8) with the Houston Astros. He has a career record of 91-94 with a 4.06 ERA (663er/1471.0ip) between Houston and Pittsburgh (2012-14). He was released by the Pirates May 30, 2014 after going 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA in six starts. Rodriguez signed with the Atlanta Braves as a free agent in January 2015 before being released on April 3.
The full Opening Day roster will be released in the coming days. The Express will report to Dell Diamond on Tuesday, April 7 for media day and a team workout before opening the season in Oklahoma City on Thursday, April 9. The team returns home to open the season at Dell Diamond on Friday, April 17.
